Full Professional-Level Feature Set

As a verified Education user, you get all Professional plan features for free—no feature restrictions compared to paid Professional teams:

  • Unlimited Figma design files, projects, pages, and collaborators
  • Unlimited FigJam files, open sessions, audio conversations, voting, and team-wide libraries
  • Advanced prototyping, team design libraries, version history, and unlimited drafts

Team & File Limits

Education teams mirror the Professional plan in capacity:

  • You have one Education Team by default, but you may create additional Education Teams—each with Professional-level features—for the duration of your verification.
  • Within each Education Team:
    • Unlimited Figma design files and pages
    • Unlimited FigJam files and open sessions
    • Unlimited Projects (folders) to organize files
  • If you downgrade to Starter (free) later, limits apply: 3 Figma files + 3 FigJam files per team, one project per team, three pages per design file, unlimited personal drafts.

Dev Mode & Design-to-Code Workflows

Dev Mode (included in all paid and Education seats) bridges design and development with:

  • Advanced Inspection: View CSS, iOS, Android code snippets; copy tokens, assets, and measurements.
  • Ready-for-Dev Status: Mark frames/components as “Ready for development” to isolate handoff items.
  • Version Comparison: Compare frame iterations side-by-side to catch spec changes.
  • Integration: Link designs to JIRA, GitHub, Storybook, or use the VS Code extension for in-IDE handoff.

Toggle Dev Mode via the “Shift +D” shortcut in any design file.

Permissions & Sharing

Education teams support the same granular permissions as Professional teams:

  • Team Roles: Owner → Admin → Can Edit → Can View
  • Project Access Levels: Can View, Can Access (inherits team permission), or Remove Team Access
  • File-Level Sharing: Owner/Admin can invite at team/project/file level with view/edit controls

Setting Up Your Education Team

To add more Education Teams, repeat the upgrade process on additional Starter Teams.

Sign up at figma.com/education and verify with your academic email or school ID.

In the Figma file browser, upgrade your default Starter Team to an Education Pro Team.

Rename your team (e.g., “UX Design 101”) and create Projects to organize files.

Invite classmates or fellow educators—verified users get full editing rights; new invites get a 7-day verification grace period.

  • Brainstorm Sessions:
Use FigJam’s audio/cursor chat and voting to foster interactive group ideation.
  • Design Projects:
Build UI mockups in Figma, transition seamlessly from FigJam drafts to high-fidelity prototypes.
  • Code Integration:
Inspect designs in Dev Mode to extract CSS snippets and guide front-end implementation.
  • Portfolio Development:
Curate design projects in Figma to showcase skills for college applications or internships.
